2005 was a great day to be in
the South Pacific Ocean. The
cruise ship Paul Gauguin
was there, plying the narrow
path of totality of a rare
hybrid
eclipse
(annular in some places, total
in others).
Thanks to the expert navigation
of Captain Gilles Bossard, the
sun and the bright planet Venus
popped out from behind a huge
cumulus cloud only seconds
before totality. Such
dramatic timing would have been
envied by any great Hollywood
director. |
