Few places on Earth can match
the beauty and serenity of Lake
Benanee in southeastern
Australia, especially on a
magnificent moonlit night like December
14, 2002, when the lake's stillness
reflected starlight like a
mirror. Just above center
lies the exquisite constellation
of Crux―the Southern Cross―with
the darker patch of sky (the
Coal Sack) just to its upper
right.
To the left of the smaller
submerged tree lies
Beta Centauri, and to its right,
Alpha Centauri, which is the
nearest star system to our sun.
The pinkish hue near the upper
left center is the famous Eta Carina
Nebula. |
