Early in the evening of April
26, 2007, the International
Space Station (ISS) made a
bright pass over the
Southwestern U.S. In this
time-lapse photo from my front
yard in Borrego Springs,
California, ISS appears as the
bright white streak from the
left to the top right. The
stars appear streaked in
concentric circles about the
north celestial pole (marked
approximately by Polaris, the
North Star) because, during the
long exposure the Earth was
rotating in the opposite
direction. The sky and
trees were illuminated by the
light of the waxing gibbous
moon. |
