AURIGID METEOR

During the pre-dawn hours of September 1, 2007, the Earth slammed into a swarm of debris left behind by the ancient Comet Kiess, creating a meteor shower known as the Aurigids.  Though light from a waning gibbous moon illuminated the desert sky, the camera did capture this bright meteor that burst into view between the constellations Eridanus and Horologium, low in the southeastern sky.  The constellation Orion appears in the upper left, while the bright star Sirius shines prominently near the trees below it.
