The total solar eclipse of
December 4, 2002 occurred with
the sun and moon only a few
degrees from the horizon.
The moon's shadow struck the
Earth's atmosphere so obliquely,
and raced by so rapidly, that
totality lasted only 29 seconds
from this location in
south-central Australia.
The rapidly approaching lunar
shadow is hard to miss as a cone
of darkness rising from the
western horizon. |
