During late summer in the
Earth's Northern Hemisphere, the
Milky Way arches delicately
across the evening sky from
northeast to southwest. In this
portrait of our Home Star City,
we see the bright star clouds
and the dark dust lane that
define its plane, and the
galaxy's central bulge just
above the horizon. Because
exposure times for the stars and
foreground are so different,
this composite shows the scene
as it appeared to the eye. |
